In 2012, I embarked on a Paleo/Crossfit 30 day challenge. Since then, I have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer and am now beginning the Focus T25 program. I had very successful results with my 2012 challenge but there's no way my body today could handle the intensity of a crossfit workout so I have chosen the Focus T25 modified plan and after I complete this program, I will compare both challenges.

Day 2
Today is Wednesday, a gym day… I was NOT looking forward to it! On the positive side, the great thing about crossfit is that you never know what they day’s workout will be, until you arrive. When I used to go to the 'other’ gym, I knew what my day looked like and man was it BORING! I knew I would be on the treadmill or elliptical machine for a ½ hour and then I would either work out my arms or my legs, depending on the day. It was a lonely experience because everyone does their own thing, and other than being polite, no one talks or really cares what others are doing.
The Crossfit difference is HUGE! The daily workout begins on the hour, any hour of the day. The WOD (workout of the day) is done as a team, with one of the trainers leading the group. Everyone supports one another and if you finish first, you are required to stay and cheer on the other group members until everyone has finished. Last Saturday, I joined what some call ‘the breakfast club,’ which is a group of crossfitters who come every Saturday morning at 9am. I was, of course, the last to finish the WOD. The last portion of the WOD was a 200 meter run. Here is the inspiring part… although they had finished their WOD, the others in the group ran with me for that last 200 meters, supporting me the whole way. This is something I have never experienced at another
gym!
Heading to the gym is never something I look forward to, and today I felt lethargic, exhausted and I have a headache. But I went anyway and the workout, though only 20 minutes long, was a killer! I sweat so much that I couldn’t open my eyes until I finished and was able to grab a towel. Pretty sure I was sweating out all those carbs. I didn’t mention that the night BEFORE my 30-day challenge began, I ate garlic pizza, macaroni salad, chips and LOTS of bread… Maybe not so smart but knowing I wasn’t going to have carbs for at least 30 days, I did what any good addict does… go out with a BANG!
